Parker Ranch

2021

Embracing the land, creating sanctuary.

Working with Julie Nelson at BKSK Architects, Winston Alford-Hamburg’s proposal brings a deep connection to nature and the Hawaiian landscape into focus. The site, nestled on Parker Ranch in Waimea, reflects the Paniolo culture and ranching heritage of the region. This residential project is about honoring the land while creating modern, sustainable living spaces. The design weaves between meadows and expansive views of Mauna Kea and the surrounding mountains, offering residents a true connection to the natural world.

Thoughtful, low-impact living.

The project is defined by low-density, sustainable design. Modular residences are built to blend into the landscape, using materials and forms that reduce environmental impact and enhance natural beauty. With a focus on health, wellness, and sustainability, the design avoids heavy concrete and embraces mass timber and CLT, which provide both structural integrity and a warm, organic feel. Each home offers views of rolling hills, ensuring that residents experience peace and openness within a thoughtfully crafted community.

Living with the land.

A place for families and nature-lovers.

With homes ranging from 2-3 bedrooms, the project is designed for small families, couples, and those looking to escape the fast pace of urban life. Whether it’s stargazing from the rooftops or wandering through the surrounding meadows, the community offers a tranquil, nature-infused living experience. This proposal preserves the essence of Waimea while embracing the future of sustainable, low-density residential development.
